Despite Late Comeback, EC Pulls Through Over Firelands

The Elyria Catholic Boys Basketball team took the trip out to Firelands High School on Tuesday December 6th, 2011, and despite an attempt to comeback, the Panthers pulled through and beat the Falcons 68-62.

EC came out on top to begin the 1st quarter, and would remain that way going into halftime up 32-24 over Firelands. Leading the Panthers was Jeremy Holley with 12 points, and he was 2-2 on free throws. Those two free throws would be the only free throws EC would have in the 1st half. Come the second half, Firelands started to spark.

The Falcons started to spark in the 3rd quarter when down by 19; Firelands hit numerous 3's and limited their amount of turnovers which lowered their point deficit to five at one point. EC hit 11 of 15 free throws in the second half, let alone five clutch free throws late in the fourth quarter from Senior Joe Dempsey and Junior John Stursa to rise Firelands' point deficit. Free throws in the second half saved EC from losing this game. Elyria Catholic was 13-16 overall in free throws. Also a key factor in Firelands coming back was the 19 fouls EC had committed. Sophomore Jeremy Holley led the team in points the second half with 8, and 21 overall.

EC Varsity is now 2-1 (0-0 in WSC) on the season. EC travels out to Vermilion to play their first conference match this year on Friday, December 9th, 2011
